Bring up the topic of wives submitting to their husbands and you'll get a response, for sure. It can be a hot topic. Ginger has written this book, which I found quite thought-provoking and real. She's candid about her struggles with coming to a fuller understanding of the good reasons God set up an authority structure in the home. One of the most helpful things was how she clarified the difference between stereotypical roles for husbands and wives and the Biblically accurate ways women should be helpmeets for the uniquely individual man they marry. In no way squashing her creativity and skill sets. The book showcases how God brings two people together to employ both strengths and weaknesses to benefit the marriage relationship as a whole and help it thrive.

This is a topic that is avoided in most modern churches because in today’s society, being in submission to a man, any man, feels at best uncomfortable, but often, unfathomable. Ginger speaks to mature women of faith as well as the new believer not yet married, and she does so as if she’s talking directly to you. While The Woman’s Curse is easy to read with Ginger’s conversational tone, the material can be life changing for your marriage. If you approach this book in prayer and humility, the principals in The Woman’s Curse can bring peace to your marriage. If you are in a place of peace already, this book is for you as well. There is always room to work on the relationships that mean the most to us, and I believe the Holy Spirit will point out areas where we all can do better in honoring and showing respect to our husbands. God will show you patterns of behavior that are habitual that you didn’t even realize. This summer my husband and I will celebrate 31 hard and wonderful years of marriage. This book sparked some good conversations for us. God showed me some areas where I could submit more fully to Him and the man He has blessed my life with. It’s time we stopped looking at “being submissive” as going backwards and realize it’s actually moving us closer to God.
